St Andrew High school opens $24-million learning complex
St Andrew High School for Girls on Tuesday officially opened a $24-million facility which it hopes will help to maximise its students' learning and become a source of revenue for the institution. Source

Campion College in pursuit of financial security
Fcaced with increasing operating costs and the changing economic profile of its students, Campion College is launching an ambitious fund-raising plan to further develop the school over the next decade. Campion, the secondary school with the best academic record in Jamaica based on results in external examinations, plans to "build a sustainable financial base" to fund a state-of-the-art library, new laboratories improved technology, sports programmes and teacher excellence up to 2020. Jamaica College takes wings - Introduces aviation course
CAREER CHOICES for senior students at one of the country's oldest secondary institutions, the prestigious Jamaica College (JC), in Kingston, have widened with the introduction of an aviation programme in the school's curriculum, beginning this academic year. The programme, the first of its kind to be offered at any high school in the English-speaking Caribbean, was recently launched at the Old Hope Road-based institution. Source

MINISTER OF EDUCATION: ANDREW HOLNESS
Struggling to deal with the problem of hundreds of students leaving secondary schools each year with no qualifications, the education ministry is considering the introduction of a technical sixth form at mainly non-traditional high schools.

'Six Tech' is being designed to ensure that all students leave school with a marketable skill and possibly, some job experience.

"Some schools have already gone ahead of the ministry by setting up Six Tech, where they allow their students who have gone through CXC to come back and do other programmes - some certified by HEART - so that they leave with a skill," Holness declared recently.

He gave high marks to the principals who had already instituted the Six Tech, and declared the intention of the education ministry to move in that direction. Continue
